What’s Your BIG WHY?

When you know your why, the path forward becomes clear.

I’ve found that when I understand why I want something, the journey toward it becomes more focused, more inspired, and much easier to commit to. That clarity gives the process energy and direction.

Take my first experience with meditation. I wasn’t just curious—I was searching. I needed relief from the constant loop of overthinking, the emotional turbulence, and the anxiety I felt around my purpose in life. Self-doubt had me stuck, and I was desperate to break free and move forward with confidence.

That was my why. It wasn’t abstract—it was alive in me. It got me out of bed, into my meditation chair, and helped me stay consistent. Rarely did I skip a session or try to negotiate my way out of it. The reason was strong. It kept showing up in my thoughts and feelings, reminding me: You’re not here to stay stuck. You’re here to grow.

I Needed Grounding—and I Found It

Back then, I felt lost. But through research and experience, I discovered that meditation could be the anchor I was looking for. And it was. Now, more than five years later, I’m grounded in a way I wasn’t before—less ruled by the noise of the ego, and more connected to a creative, essential self that lives within all of us.

So, What Do You Want?

Is there something you’re longing for? A shift, a breakthrough, a goal you want to reach?

If so, pause and ask yourself:  What’s my WHY?

When your why is strong, consistent action becomes effortless. And if you’re not sure what your why is yet, here are a few practices that helped me discover mine:

1. Write it Out

Grab a journal and just start writing. Let the words flow without judgment. Free-writing and morning pages can help you process emotions, access clarity, and connect with your deeper self. The act of writing gets you out of your head and into your heart.

2. Be in Nature

Step outside—without your phone—and immerse yourself in the natural world. Go for a long walk in the woods, sit under a tree, or spend time near the ocean. Nature has a way of calming the mind and reminding us of what really matters.

3. Serve Others

Helping others is one of the quickest ways to get out of your own head. Call a friend. Check in on someone who’s lonely. Volunteer your time. When we serve, we access a deeper sense of connection, purpose, and peace.

4. Sit in Silence

Stillness is uncomfortable at first—but it’s where the magic happens. Give yourself time to simply be. Meditation, mindfulness, breathwork, yoga, prayer—these are all powerful tools for quieting the noise and allowing your true self to emerge.

Make it Your Own

What’s most important is that you let your own inner most wisest self tell you about your Why. I caution against seeking advice from others. External opinions or validation will not help you here. Your why is unique to you and it will only guide and motivate you if it comes from within you, from your deepest truth.

My Journey to WHY (and What It’s Become)

All of these practices supported me on my path, often without me even realizing it. I wrote daily. I walked in nature. I served others. I sat in silence. And one day, in a conversation with a friend, mantra meditation entered my life—and everything changed.

So what’s my why now? Why do I still meditate, twice a day, every single day?

  • Because when you find something that truly nourishes your soul, you don’t let it go.

  • Because it helps me show up for life with more love, creativity, and ease.

  • Because each session brings gifts of grace, clarity, gratitude, and joy.

  • Because I’ve learned that in doing less, I can be more—and give more.

Meditation has become a path to presence, purpose, and peace. And my why? It continues to grow with me.
